Philippians 3:12-14I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
15-16So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.
Staying on the theme this morning of being focused. We are tempted so many times to get our eyes off what really counts. None of us are experts on this road that leads to God. And when you think you are the word says, “when a man thinketh himself to be something when he is nothing decieveth himself.” So to stay focused takes honesty with ourselves, that we need a savior. It also takes effort, so many times we want to lean to the flesh and flesh will fail us. And it takes a total commitment that the Apostle Paul talks about here in this setting of scripture. We need each other and we definitely need God to clear up any misconceptions that we might have or that are in our way causing us to not be able to see the plan(road) clearly. Staying focused is not easy, especially with so many distractions along the way. But, each distraction if yielded to the Lord becomes a stepping stone closer to Him. We gain strength and comfort as we realize that it only can be done in Him. That my friends is what Focus is all about that “I may know Him…” Our spirit man crys out for the living God and we find completion when we yield to His will and His way. The word also tells us, “For My ways are not your ways…” but I can tell you this that His way always leads to Him the author and the finisher of our faith. So as you walk today, reach out to Him and He will be found of you and your day will go much better and those around you will be touched by your focus and commitment to Jesus.
